Diet-Friendly Drinks for your Spring Break Bod

It’s an age-old dilemma: how do physique-conscious individuals maintain beach bodies while letting loose and having a few drinks?

While beer pong and keg stands may not be in their routines, lifters can still indulge in a cocktail – just without all the sugar. Making conscious decisions while drinking can drastically reduce alcohol’s impact on a shredded physique, but keep in mind, alcohol still has calories. At seven calories per gram, overindulging on a regular basis can still have negative repercussions on a strict diet.

To keep the beer belly at bay, here are a few drinks low in both calories and sugar. Oh, and if giving up beer is a no-go, consider lighter versions.

Vodka Soda

This drink clocks in at just 97 calories – perfect when trying to keep the waistline in check. If club soda just doesn’t hide the taste of liquor, try using a flavored sparkling water instead.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces vodka
  • 6 ounces club soda
  • Lime juice

Gin and Tonic

As simple as can be, a gin and tonic cocktail boasts just 115 calories. Using diet tonic water saves about 60 calories, and without the added sugar, the possibility of a nasty hangover is much less likely.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces gin
  • 6 ounces diet tonic water

Rum and Diet Cola

Another extremely simple drink, rum and diet cola cocktails tally just 98 calories. Cola masks the taste of the alcohol, and no added sugar keeps the bloat away.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces rum
  • 6 ounces diet cola

Mojito

For a tastier and more elaborate drink, the mojito sits at about 150 calories – not bad for a cocktail. Reduce more calories by eliminating the traditional sugar on the rim. This drink is perfect for the pool or beach and won’t cause uncomfortable and unsightly bloating.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 ounces light rum
  • Club soda
  • Lime juice
  • Mint Sprigs
  • Sugar (optional)

To keep calorie consumption low, be certain to choose sugar-free options when possible, and avoid overly-complicated mixed drinks. Even despite the best of efforts, over-indulging can rack up the calories quickly. Moderation is key!
